We’ve all been there. The dreaded common cold! As adults we average 2 to 4 colds per year and typically takes up to 10 days to get over.
But when you start to see the first signs of sniffles, throat tickles and coughs you should act on it quickly to prevent it from getting worse or lasting longer.
Here are our Top Tips on keeping the cold away:
1. ALL NATURAL
The antioxidants in a tablespoon of honey before bed reduces the coughing symptom in a cold. There is some evidence to show that garlic also wards off colds, try a crushed clove with dinner.
2. WATER, WATER, WATER!
Drinking water helps keep your nasal passages moist so you are actually helping yourself get rid of little particles of bacteria when you catch them.
3. EXERCISE
Regular exercise is really good in warding off bugs but once you’ve caught a cold it is best to take a rest so that your body can recover quickly.
4. SLEEP
Sleep boosts your immune system. “Pre cold” symptoms may be an indicator that you haven’t had enough sleep lately as studies have shown people who sleep less than 7 hours a night are 3 times more susceptible to colds than those who sleep 8 or more hours per night.
