A girlfriend of mine is looking to change her career, not just a little change – I’m talking from a career in an accountancy firm to a horticulturist. At 37 years old, is it too late for such a drastic career change?
Many of us dream about this kind of change but think it’s easier said than done. When my girlfriend mentioned this to our group of friends she was met with the usual, "What are you thinking?" "Are you mad?" I was the only one who supported her decision. I admire her courage to venture out and try something new and against the grain. So why don’t more of us do this more often? With the escalating cost of living, I can see why a lot of us feel stuck in our current careers and couldn’t possible envision taking such a risk. It might just be me but I believe its quality of life not quantity and although I understand that the quantity can so heavily drive the quality I also see how the quantity can kill the quality. Life is just too short to be miserable at work.
Are we so financially weary that we hold back on true happiness in relation to our careers?
