Aphrodisiac foods are believed to help stimulate sex drive and possibly increase sexual performance. These foods can be found in your local supermarket, most probably in your fridge or pantry. The name aphrodisiac is said to have come from the Greek Goddess Aphrodite.

The benefits of these foods can be from the appearance of the food, the texture, how the food makes you feel and the physical benefits the food has on your body. The more famous aphrodisiac food is the oyster.

Oysters and some other shellfish are said to have a chemical compound (testosterone and oestrogen) that relaxes the sexual hormones. However, there is little proof that the amount of testosterone and oestrogen is enough to trigger one’s libido alone.

The food you consume benefits your body in nutrition, energy, balance and circulation to name a few and all foods have different properties that aid general well-being.

Some aphrodisiac foods are:

Asparagus: Asparagus is a good source of fibre, potassium, folic acid and vitamins A, high-end B & C. Some believe that asparagus can help to boost histamine production necessary for climax.

Banana: More of a psychological aphrodisiac due to the shape and texture of the food. However, there have been some studies around the enzyme bromelain that has the potential to enhance male performance.

Caviar: Is high in zinc which can stimulate the formation of testosterone potentially maintaining male functionality.

Chilli: A little chilli powder can go a long way as it helps stimulate circulation and instil a natural high feeling after consumption.

Chocolate: An energy rich food that stimulates the secretion of endorphins that help to regulate the production and growth of sexual hormones.

There are also suggested aphrodisiac aromas such as vanilla, rose and musk – keeping in mind different people have a liking to different scents. Might be an idea to ensure your partner doesn’t have a dislike to the aroma of your choosing before you disperse it throughout the home!

Herbal aphrodisiacs such as Ginseng, Damiana, Tribulus and horny goat weed are all known to stimulate sex drive.

Ginseng: Helps to build stamina and cleanses the body of stress and may aid improvements in sexual dysfunction for both men and women.

Damiana: Can be particularly useful for improving sexual functions. Tribulus: Used to help boost sex drive and energy levels.

Horny Goat Weed: Is said to be nature's most powerful natural aphrodisiac, improving sexual desire and performance. Learn more about natural aphrodisiac daily supplements.
